TJ from Actual Pain and Book of Black Earth has a new-ish project, King Dude. They just put a tape out late last month which is available here, the newer stuff sounds pretty good, neo-folkish. I’d like to check out the tape, but you know, no way to play it. Sometimes DIY-ness kills me. I love that people still put out tapes, but gimme a download code! You can check out the MySpace here.

The final episode of Conan was more than excellent. I won’t weigh in with commentary like so many others, most everything that needs saying has been said. The only thing that I can say is that unlike what others think, I do not believe that the situation struck such a cord because it is a parable for recent times, between the haves and the have-nots. In my eyes it is just another example of how the old are ruining America for the young. Conan will go on to better things, probably on FOX, and Jay can go back to collecting cars. In his final monologue something Conan said struck a nerve with me when he said, “All I ask is one thing, and I’m asking this particularly of young people that watch: Please do not be cynical.” People, I for one, who see comedy as an expression of creativity may, in this situation, have the right to be cynical. But, Conan is right. It doesn’t get you anywhere in life.

I love that someone did this. And I would like to reiterate that I had no hand in this. Even before I started watching this show I was pseudo obsessed with its reality. Baltimore is sort of like third in the list of cities I think of when I think about growing up. The first two being Richmond and St. Michaels. Of course the closest I came to any of the areas of focus from the Wire would be as a passerby or when going to skate Landsdowne, maybe. Regardless, I found this map while trying to come up with an idea for a collaborative tool used as a city guide. At the time I was focusing on Maryland cities and Baltimore seemed the obvious option. Of course now that I’ve started watching the show I can’t imagine having the knowledge base to create this object without. If you’ve seen it then you might get a kick out of exploring this map.
