Doing a little weekend rundown, stopped by some of my old haunts and old hangouts while I was in town.  My mom took me out to Dinwiddie to check out the new High School they built right across the street from the school I attended.  I was pretty impressive, Dinwiddie is taking a giant leap into more modern times (even though the one I went to had been very recently renovated).  While we were there I saw that they had a little store setup, and they were selling jerseys and the like super cheap.  Unfortunately they were closed, but I did get a nice surprise before I left, Ma Dukes picked me up this jersey while she was at the high school for a meeting on Tuesday.

Tried to find some deals at all my favorite secret/ small thrift stores back home, I did find a Cabela’s and a Pendleton Wool shirt, but I just wasn’t totally feeling them.  My new favorite thing to search through at thrift stores now though is their books.  Usually most places have a bunch of hard backs and in most cases they’re first editions.  It’s a cheap way to pick up that sort of thing, even if they aren’t really worth anything, most hard backs are expensive as hell and it’s a good deal.  Both Carl Hiaasen books I picked up are in fact first editions and again it doesn’t really mean anything other than I like him and I think it’s awesome that I was able to snag them so cheap.  If you feel like reading (yeah right) one of his books I suggest starting in the same place I did with “Skin Tight”.  All I’ll say is that there is a hit man who loses a hand to a barracuda so he gets a plastic surgeon to set him up with a weed whacker for a hand and he carries around a battery in a bag so he can thwack people.  Hilarious.

Lastly I’m not totally giving up on my dreams of writing the great American novel.  O.k. that was a little bit of a joke, but really I like to write and I don’t think I’m too terrible at it.  Anyway, I’ve always been into Hunter Thompson.  I really enjoy the idea of “gonzo” journalism and debating (I guess within my own mind) at what point someone is in control of what they’re writing, what they make up and what they really do and do not take part in.  During the weekend I decided to chalk up the dough and buy a copy of his first published work, about the Hells Angels.  Obviously it’s crazy so far, and I’ll probably finish it by the weekend.  If you haven’t been there before you should check out 4Qconditioning for more skateboarding and motorcycles.  Like I was saying though I haven’t finished the book yet, and I don’t know if it’s covered at all, but from what I’ve read after the book was published Thompson got stomped out by some Angel’s members.  I guess that’s the price you can pay for hanging out with ill dudes.  (Though it also should be noted that that guys that jumped him apparently weren’t his friends, but other members and he still considered some of them his friends, but you might read differently from Sonny Barger.  I need to read all those books, a mountain of knowledge!)

Back in Md.  School to start soon.  I’ve got some new books and some new goals all to be discussed in due time (probably tomorrow, if I get a chance).  I only now realize how nice it’s been here over the summer.  Not looking forward to being inundated with underclassmen.

And just to keep the post interesting, here’s a bunch of culled stuff that I was going to use for drawings or is just generally inspirational… (more…)

On my mini Va-cay right now.  If you want more solid updates you should check out Bring ‘Em Young, we always have it going on over there.  The Blockbusters down here are so much better than up where I live, four used movies for twenty bucks?  C’mon man.  So good.  I think the pick of the litter was the copy of Zardoz I found .  My friend Jeff introduced me to Zardoz when we were in Art Foundation and we always used to joke about it, but I had never seen it all the way through.  So thank god for Blockbuster and their initiatives to get rid of all the extra movies no one rents anymore.

Coming out next month, just in time for my birthday, gotta get my pre-order on.  First real semseter of Grad school starts a week from tomorrow.  I got a B+ in my Management class too, tight.

Where to start? I got back from the Eastern Shore last night. Picked up some good books at the St. Michael’s library while I was there. Paper back copies of “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and “To Have And Have Not” by Hemingway and a hardback copy of “Generation Kill” by Evan Wright. I really recommend reading “Generation Kill” I’d say that I’d lend anyone that wanted to read it my copy, but with books, borrowing usually means never seeing your copy again. It really is a great read; that Evan Wright embedded with the Marines he did and the craziness of their mission gives some amazing insights into the war going on in Iraq and into who is really fighting this war for us. You know that it’s all kids over there, but to read about the ways they interact and talk to each other, sounds to me, like any of my friends. Evan Wright also wrote this great piece for the L.A. Weekly about his time working in pornography for Larry Flynt. I remember when I had a subscription to Big Brother and there was a shipping error at L.F.P. and everyone who was supposed to get Big Brother accidentally got copies of “Taboo” one of their gnarlier magazines at the time. I even got a letter of apology from them a few days before it came. I really wish I knew where that was, I’d have it framed.

Class tonight, Exam/ Presentation Wednesday. Then I have a break until the second of September (when fall semester starts and the true test begins). So I’m getting up early Thursday and coming down to Richmond/ Petersburg for a week or so. Anyone trying to go get tattooed?

Since I don’t really have a lot of time these days to write anything of real substance, but I still wanted to keep something going on here I wanted to post up some of my heavy influences from the recent week.  I hope to finish my exam tomorrow once I get over to the eastern shore, check you later crazy dogzzz.  Make the jump for some sweet videos to pass the time. Pineapple Express is the best by far. Everything else pales in comparison.

p.s. Fuck D.C. ticket prices.

I probably won’t be updating a bunch over the next week or so, I get my exam for my Archives Management class on Wednesday and have a presentation to give with my group the Wednesday after that. I’ll try and keep it tight though, refuse to lose. Check Bring ‘Em Young for all the newest fun. Maybe some dumb stories coming soon.
