Thank god for roll over minutes.  Just finished moving yesterday, with most of my stuff put away.  Taking care of so much stuff has been a headache, was on the phone about an hour yesterday and today dealing with insurance and U-haul.  I don’t know if they really want me to fill out the survey they sent.

My life as a commuter starts on Tuesday.  Not ready, even with it only being six weeks.  I want the summer.  I want to not be poor.  I want to make a new zine, get film developed, to take pictures.

This is what I’m listening to today:

Long weeks

Got back from Petersburg a couple of hours ago.  Went home for the week to see my friend Patrick get his M.S.W. and try and get things ready for the big moves.  I’m not ready still and I know I’ll end up doing it alone, which doesn’t really bother me, I’ve had to move myself the past two times, still this time it’s different.  Pulling up my roots. I threw away what seemed like hundreds of skate magazines.  Only saving older Thrashers and all copies of Big Brother.

I’m back up north for about five days, then I’ll be going back down to Petersburg to either rent a Uhaul truck or hopefully just getting my Grandmother’s Explorer if it has a tow hitch and renting a trailer instead.  Either way its going to cost, but its worth it to move everything in one day I guess.  After I pack up most of everything from the house in Petersburg its on to College Park to retrieve what little I have in my car port, I mean room, then back down to Springfield.

Doing the dumbest thing imaginable, moving from a mile away from campus to about 25 miles away from campus, the commute may kill me.  In the long run its worth it, but its just adding to the stress in my life.  Taking a class this summer, starting June second, which will mostly meet at Archives II so taking the train/ buses will be too much of a hassle, meaning beltway at rush hour.

While I was home I got two new zines in the mail:

Patrick Griffin’s new zine

pg zine

and a different version of Larceny by Barry Mcgee than the one I already have, this one went with the “Advanced Mature Work” show from a few years ago, hand screened cover.

bm zine

Its been a year since the last zine I made, I guess being in grad school is a good excuse for not putting out another one,  I have a bunch of photos saved up and a couple rolls to develop so maybe something in the near future.  I was getting into the idea of doing a collage one, but I think I’ll stick with what I’ve been doing, trying to create a narrative structure with images.

Thought these looked cool when I Youuuuutubeeeee’d them.

I just got this album and its got some pretty funky tracks, Trash Talk has a good groove.  Best of all they’re from right here in DC.  If you wanted to hear a really great album from another DC band Ian Svenonius was in I’d say you needed to listen to Make-Up’s Sound Verite.  Totally solid album.  All the way through.

For all ostensible purposes my exam is finished.  Still needs to be trimmed and checked and have all my sources added, but I can do that tomorrow.  I hate writing out exams, especially when there is so much that can go into the answers.  I get easily lost in the details.

I don’t know why my allergies wait so long to act up, then within a week period make me totally incapable of going even from the house to the car.  All I have is Benadryl.  I took one this afternoon when I got to the library for a meeting and because of that, I wasn’t the most devoted to talking about tomorrows presentation as much as I was devoted to staring into space.  After three and a half hours of that I decided enough was enough and I went to Chipotle for a burrito, chips and hot salsa.  Totally worth it.  I will finish my exam today.  I swear it will be done.  Gunther is the only reason I am still awake.  Anyone care?

I didn’t care at first, but I think I’m going to have to hunt down one of the new Rebel8 new eras.  The black and gray is killer.  I guess hunt down just really means ordering it from the website, unless Hospitality is going to get them in.

Say hello to the new wall paper for my new room -

or maybe this -

I ate in this cool new Mexican place near campus today where they had two big flat screens showing soccer.  After I got my order I staked out a place under the TV nearest to the entrance and watched what I didn’t know was the Chelsea V Barcelona game from Wed.  They weren’t running a clock on screen so it was hard to know where they were in the game other than that they were in the tail end.  I left to go to the library with the idea that I’d check up on the score when I got there, and now I wish that I would have stayed to watch the rest of the game.  Apparently it got intense in the last two minutes or so.  Exciting game.
