G.I. Joe

I strongly believe that the new G.I. Joe movie won’t stand up to my memories of childhood.  At least with Transformers the magic of modern film making was able to make the cartoon a reality.  However with G.I. Joe it was more about the story and characters and simply touting a guy in a black ninja suit and expecting people to bow down because he’s snake eyes then I hope they are mistaken.

There are two reasons why I believe the new movie won’t stand up:

1.  I imagine Joseph Gordon Levitt won’t be affecting the same high scratchy voice of Cobra Commander from the cartoon.

Obnoxious, yes.  But, that’s what hurt the Transformers movies, few original voices and poor choices for replacements.

2.  No palindromic twins Tomax and Xamot.

All I’ve learned from this is the name of the G.I. Joe movie that I grew up watching, Arise Serpentor.  Much better than the one about spores.

Lack of updates can be attributed to finished summer school.  Three classes – one semester is all that I have left before I will have my graduate degree.  I need to start looking for jobs now, but I’m so excited to have a break I just want to lounge around.  Tomorrow I leave for New Jersey.  It’s the first step in a long weekend that will culminate in a family reunion in Ohio on Saturday.  I haven’t seen most of my Dad’s family in almost two years.  It’s set to be an interesting trip.

Watch Zardoz.  In 2001 when I started film school, my friend Jeff used to talk about Zardoz in class, always mentioning the land of the apathetics.  I didn’t actually see it until years and years later.  It’s corny, but in an extremely fun way.  Excellent, underrated Sean Connery outing about the future, and the past.  I may not be able to sway you but perhaps this will:

Added almost all of my scanned negatives to my Flickr account last week.  Last week of my summer class ends on Thursday, gotta grind out this paper.  Then pseudo freedom for a few weeks.
